Are the chores really done?

So today I got up and exercised, straightened the house, put a crock pot meal on, did some laundry, got the kids busy playing with friends and started to head upstairs to read my new book when I looked outside.  I noticed the grass was tall and the weeds were taking over the rocks.  I had 2 choices..... #1 I could continue upstairs to my book and a nice cool room or #2 go outside in the sweltering heat to mow the lawn and get itchy and sweaty.   I thought about it for a LONG moment and then thought, Shadd has been at work all day and the last thing that he wants to do is mow the lawn and do yard work.  How fair is it that I go upstairs and waste time reading a book when I could do this for him and allow him an evening off?  So I went outside and sweat and itched and pooped scooped and weeded until it was done.

When I came in to take my shower I felt so good having done that for Shadd and was so excited for him to come home and see it.  I still have not sat down to read my book, but I am OK with that because I did somehting nice for my husband.  It is true that when you serve others you are happier.

Shadd was given advice when we were married..... "A happy wife is a happy life."  I feel the same about husbands and think it is important to do all we can to make their life easier and allow them more time to hang with the family and not be busy with chores.  (The lawn mower and chain saw are not that scarey once you use them once or twice!  <smile>   )

Heart Rate Training

This last week I was getting ready to go running and I put my Heart Rate Monitor on and found that the battery died and I couldn't use it.  I started to stress out and realized how much I  depend on it for my workouts.  Not only does it tell me my calorie expenditure for the day - but it really guides me to be in the right zones when I am working out.  I know that not everyone feels that they need one - but I have yet to meet someone that did bite the bullet and buy one and regret it.  They are like your dashboard in your car, and help you to know how hard to push yourself (or back off) and makes exercising more successful.  I just ordered a new one at the club that is more detailed (mainly so that I can talk the talk at the club and know how to help the members I teach) and I am really excited about it.  I know it proabably has more whistles and bells than I need - but it will be fun!  Heart Rate Monitors are available at most sports stores and run from $50-$500.  The one I had for a long time and loved was the IronMan at Sports Authority for $90.  It endured ALOT of sweat and hundreds of hours of workouts.  I encourage anyone that has never tried a Heart Rate Monitor to get one and see the difference it can make in your workouts.  You will love it!
